Name: Jennifer Smith
Three years ago, a combination of my childhood love for the 90s X-Men cartoon and a visit with comic-reading friends led me to see X-Men: The Last Stand on the big screen. As I left the theater, I thought, "The comics have got to be better than that, right?" So I asked a friend to lend me Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, which I'd been told was the cure plot, done well. When I told him I loved it, that same friend lent me The Dark Phoenix Saga. And Runaways. And Grant Morrison's New X-Men run. And New Avengers. And X-Factor. And She-Hulk. And Alias. And so it began.
A year later, I was preparing to write my 100+ page undergraduate senior thesis on Captain America. Now, three years later, I'm reading 10 or more books a week and blogging about comics regularly with the Fantastic Fangirls. Those people who say comics are an addiction? They're not lying. But I find that I don't mind in the least.
I'm a Marvel girl at heart, with particular love for the X-universe (especially Cyclops, Jean Grey, and the Beast) and the Avengers titles (with a focus on Captain America and Iron Man), but lately I've been placing tentative feelers into the strange world of DC, too. I also read Bill Willingham's Fables and Jack of Fables religiously, and I'm fond of Warren Ellis' Fell. Favorite writers include Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, Peter David, Joss Whedon, Christos Gage, Dan Slott, Brian Michael Bendis, and Jeff Parker.
After hearing another friend talk about iFanboy on a daily basis for months, I thought it was about time I checked it out. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made, and I'm very happy to be here.

On Nov 6, 2009 3:10 AMI just CACKLED at Paul's costume. And Ron's. Great job, all! I was too chicken to post my own picture, but it should be known that I threw a laywer She-Hulk costume together at the last minute. It wasn't easy being green.

On Nov 3, 2009 8:48 AMWhile I tend to be on the side of those who believe that a little fear is healthy, what you've said here is very true, and probably the greatest battle in my own life. We'll see if I can change that.

On Oct 27, 2009 10:03 PMI... I... what? Astonishing X-Men #1 was the first mainstream superhero comic I read. It remains one of my favorite single issues, and Gifted remains one of my favorite story arcs. And I am... kind of horrified by this thing.
